Widget Products, Inc.’s premiere product “The Knit Lite” was created entirely out of necessity. In late 2000, Monica Dremann and her husband, Michael Rosenberg, President of Imagine Entertainment, were in a dimly lit movie theater waiting for their movie to start. Monica, an avid knitter, was working on her latest knitting project. After a few minutes, she turned to her husband and said, “I can’t see the stitches!” Michael replied, “You should invent a knitting needle with a light in it.”
Monica and Michael immediately had drawings and designs created of “The Knit Lite.” They then took the idea to Edith Eig, Monica’s knitting teacher and a well known figure in the knitting community to get her input on the viability of the product in the marketplace. A prototype of “The Knit Lite” was developed and Widget Products, Inc. was founded in March 2006.
Soon after, Monica and Michael brought in an inventor and tool importer who specializes in tools that have LED lights. He was able to produce the knitting needles with a small LED light in the tips in mass production. After receiving a patent, Widget Products, Inc. brought the first needles to market in the spring of 2006. In March of 2007, Jerry Payton was recruited to serve as President of Widget Products, Inc. Jerry’s career summary includes executive positions with retailers such as Kmart, Wal-Mart and Michaels and he has held senior executive positions with some of the craft industries largest suppliers. He has extensive experience in operations, merchandising, sales, marketing, international buying and supply chain management.
In August 2007 “The Scissor Lite” scissors with LED lights imbedded in the handle were added to its product lineup. In Spring 2008 Widget Products, Inc. will introduce the “Precision Scissor Lite” a smaller version of the original Scissor Lite and three lighted sewing implements called “The Seam Lite”, “The Thread Lite” and “The Snag Lite”. All Widget products to date have registered patents or are patent pending.
Widget Products, Inc.’s corporate office is located in Omaha, Nebraska. Widget Products, Inc. plans to continue to invent and patent additional cutting edge and innovate tools for multiple applications worldwide.
